Swarmed Portrait (2012) is a piece using programming to render dynamic motion. Using ActionScript in Flash, it is configured to obtain colors from photos and assign colors to small particles. During the mapping, I tried to create different kinds of movement to depict the faces, such as whirlpool, cluster and straight patterns. Each time I changed the argument, the computer will produce new motion to form the faces in an unpredictable manner.
The concept of Swarmed Portrait is to present how celebrities are viewed in the public eye. The thousands of particles represent people’s perspective on the well-known. How people think of them will influence their distinct identity and characteristic impression.
