New York, September 12, 2015

Taiwanese new media artist Meng Chih Chiang’s digital artwork “A Stranger to Words” was selected to display in Chicago 2015 IEEE VIS 2015 Arts Program Exhibition. The expo will last half month starting from October 16 at Art Institute of Chicago.

IEEE Visualization Conference (VIS) is the world’s largest international seminar on data visualization, and it is the most important annual event in the field of data analysis. Over the years, it explores new technologies related to data visualization and its future development.

The theme for the event this year is “Data Improvisations”. Meng Chih’s work “A Stranger to Words” constructs unique data through personal learning experience, and further blends in the complexity and difficulty of language and its frustration and anxiety.

During the entire one-year period, Ms. Chiang uses the process of transformation through modern data to visualize the process of learning thousands of words. The threads of thought turned into a web of colorful line that represents the vaguely clear memory in people’s minds.

The judge appreciates her work: “a perfect blend of aesthetics and technology application. Successfully explains the complexity and connectivity of data by both performance of the data and inner aesthetic meaning of the data.”

Meng Chih Chiang is from Pingtung, and she was granted government scholarships by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. She has earned a master degree in Computer Arts degree at School of Visual Arts, and she currently work in New York. Her works is restrained and delicate, refined in color and style. She works freely in the field of graphic and digital art design.

“Data Improvisations” will be displayed from October 16 to October 30 at the Art Institute of Chicago LeRoy Neiman Center.
